Starting this week, [Klu](https://klu.so/) is [an AI sales simulator](https://klu.so/sales-simulator). You practice a sales call out loud with an AI buyer who pushes back and asks the awkward questions real buyers ask. Then you get coached on how it went, before you're on a call that actually counts.

That's the news. If you've been using Klu to record your meetings, don't worry, your recordings are still there. There's a whole section further down about what happens to them.

The rest of this post is the longer story. We've been building Klu for about two years, and it feels wrong to change it this much with a two-line changelog. So we're going to tell it properly.

## Two years of Klu

Klu started as a meeting tool. The idea was simple. You'd have a call, Klu would take the notes, and whatever you agreed on would end up in the tools you already used. Nobody would have to sit there at six in the evening typing up a summary and trying to remember who promised to send the deck.

We built a lot in those two years. A recorder, then a Chrome extension. Transcripts and summaries and action items. Integrations so the notes went where your team actually worked. We rewrote big parts of it more times than we'd like to admit, and there were weeks where we spent days chasing one bug that only showed up for a handful of people.

We were proud of it. We still are.

But we'd be lying if we said it went the way we hoped. There are a lot of good meeting tools now, and some of them are backed by teams a hundred times our size. When we launched on Product Hunt, we got some nice comments and almost nothing else. No new payments. Hardly anyone even finished onboarding. That one stung for a while.

And still, people used it. Some of you trusted Klu with meetings that really mattered to you. Client calls, interviews, conversations you wanted to get exactly right. We never took that lightly, even on the days it felt like nobody was watching.

## Why we're changing direction

At some point we had to be honest with ourselves. We could keep pushing a meeting tool into a crowded space and hope something changed. Or we could follow the thing that people were already pulling us toward.

The sales simulator started as a small experiment. One page on our site, not much fanfare, nothing on the homepage. We mostly wanted to see if anyone cared. They did. People found it, signed up, practiced, and a good number of them paid for it. For a team our size, someone paying for a thing they found almost by accident means more than any launch day.

The more we looked at it, the more it made sense. For two years Klu was about what happens after a call. The notes, the summary, the follow-up. The simulator is about what happens before it. That nervous half hour before a discovery call when you're reading the prospect's LinkedIn for the third time and running your opener in your head. Nobody had really built for that moment in a way we liked.

It also didn't feel like starting over. Everything we learned building Klu about voice, about how people actually talk on calls, about what makes a conversation feel real, went straight into this. It's the same team and the same stubbornness, pointed at a problem people seem to actually want solved.

## Meet Klu Sales Simulator

Here's how it works. You start a practice call and you talk, out loud, to an AI buyer. It answers the way a real prospect would. Sometimes that means it's interested. Sometimes it's busy and wants you off the phone in thirty seconds. Sometimes it tells you it already uses a competitor and doesn't see why it should switch.

You handle it however you'd handle it for real. When the call ends, you get coaching on how it went. Where you lost them, what you rushed, which question you should have asked and didn't.

Then you can do it again. That's honestly the part we like most. In real life you get one shot at a cold call and if you fumble the opener, that's it. Here you can fumble it ten times on a Tuesday morning and nobody ever knows.

We built it for people like us, really. SDRs and AEs who want reps before the real calls. Founders who suddenly have to do sales and never learned how. People moving into a sales job and nervous about the first week. Anyone with a big call on the calendar who'd rather hear the hard objection now than for the first time with the buyer on the line.

You can try it for free at [klu.so/sales-simulator](https://klu.so/sales-simulator). Do one call. It takes a few minutes, and we think you'll feel the difference by the second one.

## What happens to your meetings and recordings

If you used Klu for meetings, this is the part that matters most to you, so we'll keep it plain.

Your past meetings, transcripts and notes are still in your account. We're not quietly deleting anything. You can still log in, look through them, and download everything in one go. Here's how.

1. Log in to your Klu account at [klu.so](https://klu.so/).
2. Click **Export my data** in the left sidebar. You can also go straight to [klu.so/export-data](https://klu.so/export-data).
3. You'll see how many meetings you have, and how many of them have a recording.
4. Click **Export**. All your meeting notes and recordings download together as one zip file.

The Chrome extension isn't going anywhere either. It still works as a simple recorder. You record a meeting and download the result, without the bigger meeting platform around it. If that's all you ever used Klu for, you can keep using it exactly like that.

[If there's a date after which old meeting data will be removed, say it here clearly. If there isn't one, delete this line.]

If anything about your data is unclear, write to us and we'll sort it out with you personally. There are three of us. You'll get a real reply.

## Thank you

We want to end this the right way.

To everyone who signed up for Klu when it was rough around the edges, thank you. To the people who sent us bug reports at strange hours, who told us exactly what annoyed them, who stuck around after an update broke something, thank you. You made the product better than we could have made it alone, and a lot of what you taught us is sitting inside the simulator now.

To the people who paid us, especially early on. You probably don't know how much that meant. Small teams run on that kind of belief, and some months it was the main thing keeping us going.

And to the people who tried the sales simulator before we'd even told anyone about it. You're the reason this post exists. You showed us where to go next.

We're excited. Really excited, in a way we haven't been for a while. It's a little scary too, turning something you've worked on for two years into something new. But it feels like the right call, and we'd rather make it with you than without you.

If you've got a sales call coming up, [come practice with us](https://klu.so/sales-simulator). If you just want to tell us what you think, good or bad, reply anytime. We read everything.
